Having completed 18 months of high-profile fund-raising for leukaemia charities, Geoff has taken the decision to set-up his own Foundation, the Geoff Thomas Foundation committed to the development and delivery of new treatments for patients with cancer and leukaemia across the country.
The Foundation will have the advantage of being able to harness the power and popularity of football and Geoff’s close association with the sport, which has already given his work huge profile to date.
Geoff is passionate that funds raised will go directly to influence the treatment of cancer and to make real progress with innovative drugs and treatments. Geoff is now working with the top consultants at the five leading centres around the country to identify what they need to make things happen, whether it be funding nurses, research assistants or specific equipment. Geoff describes it as obtaining a ‘shopping list’ of needs from these consultants. The emphasis will be on making things happen for the people like Geoff’s consultant, Charlie Craddock, who simply want to offer pioneering treatments to patients.
Geoff’s vision for the Foundation is that it will provide a community for all the people who are experiencing living with cancer and, that it will build to reflect the powerful values and purpose of LIVESTRONG and its strong campaigning that inspired Geoff so much during his fight with leukaemia.
