MEET THE PROFESSORS

prof 1"Having inspired as a "Leader on the football pitch Geoff is now leading a crucial drive to develop new treatments for patients with leukaemia and other blood cancers.

With your help the Geoff Thomas Foundation will be able to transform the lives of patients in Birmingham and across the UK.

Professor Charles Craddock, University Hospital, Birmingham

Prof2"Money raised by the Geoff Thomas Foundation will be used to finance a research nurse to support our programme of clinical trials in leukaemia and allied diseases.

Access to new treatments is a key to making progress in these diseases and the money raised by the foundation is crucial to supporting this.

Professor Nigel Russell, Nottingham University Hospital

prof3"Scientists in my group in Oxford are committed to understand how blood is normally made and how this goes wrong in patients with various blood disorders.

This work provides a strong scientific basis for developing new approaches to treating and monitoring patients with important blood diseases. I greatly look forward to working with Geoff and his team with the aim of improving treatments for patients.

Professor Doug Higgs, Oxford University

"Our treatments for patients with cancers of the blood have improved significantly over the years, largely thanks to the introduction of new treatments and drug therapies. In order to maximise our ability of taking new drugs from the research laboratory to the clinic, Geoffs fantastic fund-raising efforts are essential. The fund will assist in employing a new research nurse and administrator who will be crucial in giving us greater capacity to try and improve treatments in these difficult diseases.

Dr Jamie Cavenagh, St Bartholomews, London

"Geoffs fantastic fund raising abilities are vital to assist in funding a research nurse and administrator for our bone marrow transplant and leukaemia program here to aid in our work bringing novel treatment approaches to our patients, to improve quality and to improve the patient experience throughout the very difficult time in their lives when they are fighting cancer.

Professor John Gribben, St Bartholomews, London

Professor John Liu Yin"When I first met Geoff, I was most impressed by both his personal courage in fighting his leukaemia and his dedication to help others in the same plight. The twin aims of the Geoff Thomas Foundation are funding research into finding new and more effective ways of treating leukaemia and related disorders and the rapid delivery of these treatments to patients. These goals are eminently achievable and deserve our wholehearted support. We are very grateful to Geoff for his tremendous energy and vision.

Professor John Liu Yin, Manchester Royal Infirmary
